Gold Canadian Maple Leaf
This bullion coin was the second one to make its place internationally. With Canada’s release of their coin, and a worldwide boycott of South Africa’s Krugerrand at the time, they paved a way for many countries to contribute to the gold supply, that is mined and minted in that country.
History and Significance:
In 1979, Canada released their first production of the Gold Canadian Maple Leaf Coin from the Royal Canadian Mint. When this coin was released, the Krugerrand was the only pure gold coin available, but were being boycotted by multiple countries due to the apartheid at the time. As a result, they added to the supply of gold investments for all to enjoy.

Originally, the Canadian government had only planned limited releases for a total of three years, starting 1979 and ending in 1981. However, they continue to release a limited amount of these bullion coins, from gold mined in Canada, and minted at the Royal Canadian Mint, on an annual basis.
Great Design: This Gold Canadian Maple Leaf Coin feature Queen Elizabeth II’s profile, who was not only the Queen of England, but Canada as well, on the obverse side. On the reverse side of the coin is Canada’s national symbol, the Maple Leaf.
Fineness and Purity: This bullion coin’s gold content is 99.99% pure gold, which equates to 24 karat gold bullion, with only .999% alloy mixture. This is the highest purity possible when it comes to gold.
Size and Weight: The diameter of the coin is 30mm (1.29 in.), with a thickness of 2.80mm (.12 in.). This Canadian gold bullion coin weighs 1 Troy Ounce = 31.10 grams
Legal Tender Status: The 1oz Canadian Maple Leaf bullion coin has a face value of $50 in Canadian currency, and can be used as legal tender in Canada only.
